Dr. Umar Johnson Requested Drake To Clarify If He Identifies As A Black Man

Dr. Umar Johnson has publicly called on Drake to clarify his racial identity amidst ongoing discussions about his heritage during his feud with Kendrick Lamar.

In a video posted on Instagram, Dr. Umar urged Drake to state whether he identifies as a Black man first and foremost or as mixed race. He emphasized the need for Drake to set the record straight, especially since some people believe Drake only claims Black identity when convenient.

Dr. Umar suggested a sit-down meeting with Drake during his visit to Toronto in October to discuss the matter further. This comes after Kendrick Lamar's diss tracks, "Euphoria," "Meet the Grahams," and "Not Like Us," questioned Drake's Blackness.

Author Michael Eric Dyson defended Drake, criticizing the narrow views on Black identity that led to questioning Drake's authenticity.
