Drake’s Legal Team Cites Kendrick Lamar’s Super Bowl Halftime Show in UMG Defamation Case

Drake’s legal team has cited Kendrick Lamar’s Super Bowl halftime performance in their ongoing defamation lawsuit against Universal Music Group (UMG).

In a court filing, Drake’s attorney argued that UMG has been delaying legal proceedings while continuing to promote Lamar’s hit diss track, Not Like Us, which was performed at the Super Bowl.

Drake's attorney stated: “[D]elaying discovery would unfairly prejudice [Drake], who is continuing to suffer the consequences of UMG’s defamatory campaign,” he writes. “Indeed, at the same time UMG has been delaying here, UMG launched new campaigns to further spread the defamatory content [“Not Like Us”], including at the 2025 Super Bowl halftime show, which had over 133.5 million viewers.”

The lawsuit accuses UMG of orchestrating a smear campaign against Drake, using the song to damage his reputation and devalue his brand ahead of contract negotiations.
